A study into the Coffin Bay dolphin population by two Flinders University PhD students has revealed the dolphins are a new species of bottlenose dolphin known as the Burrunan dolphin (Tursiops australis).
The Eyre Peninsula Natural Resources Management Board is inviting feedback on the new Draft Water Allocation Plan (WAP) for the Southern Basins and Musgrave Prescribed Wells Areas. The WAP aims to ensure water resources are managed sustainably for all water users and for the environment.

A Fire Management Plan has been adopted for the Central Eyre Peninsula region to address risks to life, property and the environment. The plan covers 23 reserves, including more than 210 000 hectares of Environment Department reserves as well as some Crown Land and some land covered by Heritage Agreements.
Starting this month, eligible land managers can collect free fox baits and discuss their property baiting programs with Natural Resources Officers at a number of convenient locations across Western Eyre Peninsula. Natural Resources Officer Andrew Sleep says that it’s important for land managers to work strategically with neighbours to conduct fox baiting at the same time.
